Nat

Nat is the quiet of the two. Where Theo is always in the middle of things, always active, Nat is more thoughtful and you can often catch her just staring at the space in front of her, or gazing into the distance, watching the clouds or marveling how the breeze moves the grass she's lying in...

The people around her sometimes made fun of her hair, because it has the most impossible colours in it - sometimes. But they stopped as soon as Nat could talk because she would gaze into their eyes and seriously tell them that she had this hair because she used to be a lake-maid. Like a mermaid but living in the most beautiful lake. In her past life. And as long as she remembers the cool of the lake, the sun shimmering through the water and warming her skin, the greenish water, the blue water, the dark water at full moon, her favourite... As long as she will remember it, close her eyes and be there, in the little lake with her sisters in the middle of the woods, in that little clearing. As long as she remembers, the colours of the lake will sometimes shimmer in her hair. And she will always remember because it is a part of her. The place she is in whenever she gazes into the distance or stares at the space just in front of her...

People don't make make fun of you when you tell them your story and they see and know deep in their hearts that it's the truth. So Nat dreams, remembers but she is also here. In this life, where she is just a girl with a big old soul who knows and sees just a tiny bit more...

So far she has not shared her idea of clothing and I will not pressure her but offer her something from time to time until we find clothes she loves.

Boys...

I love how my wish list dolls sometimes get me to make dolls I would probably not have attemted right at that moment.
I keep forgetting about boy dolls especially when I look at my stash of wefts lying around that all scream "girl" ;)
So when I made Henley I was very excited, especially in combination with the brushed mohair wig as I hadn't made one of those in a very long time (if I can call anything during my doll making days a very long time as I really haven't made them that long I guess). So I was happy when another wish lister asked for a boy. A boy who almost happened by himself with the little scar on the forehead that I didn't plan but that fits him just perfect...
And he gave me courage to try to make dungarees once again after I had given up on them in the past because they never turned out the way I wanted them too. Many makers supported me and helped but in the end I would not have been able to make the dungarees I envisioned if Julie Colby of Inviting Play hadn't held my hand through the process!
So here is Magnus, one of the few boy dolls I made and I can't wait to make the next boy...

Like so many boys he is proudly sporting his scar. It proves he's a "real boy"

He didn't want his tattoo on the "usual place" but to wear it where a boy would

All ready

His hat has a stone with natural holes in them attached. We found the stone on my favourite beach in Ireland and it will make sure he's lucky wherever he goes

Work in progress

I usually work at a few dolls at a time. I love to see how different they turn out even though make "the same thing" with them all.
So I make a few heads and then look at the wish list to find out which head would like to become which doll. Then I assemble one after the other, focusing on who they will become.
That is how I sometimes end up with three dolls all almost finished, all just in undies, waiting for clothes and names. Here they are, all big, tan dolls, two wish list and one special one.
I always work on at least one none wish list doll on the side where I can just try out what I would like to (a new eye shape here), just for myself ;)

as promised.. handknit summer dresses / tunics

So I've had some time to just knit. Or let's say I took the time to just knit a bit. First I thought I'd work ahead and have clothes ready for my next few dolls but then I realized that when I work on a doll I want to make the clothes for that doll right away and not just choose something from the stash...

So I have some handknits to sell ;)

They were all handknit by me using yarn by Mosaic Moon, Lollytree, YarnLoft and ontheround...

Measurments will be in the listings, most are tunics and will need to be worn with trousers or something ;) they all fit Lizzy, one of my big girls but as they stretch, they will fit several sizes (one is actually very tight fitting on Lizzy).

They will upload (if everything goes according to plan) to my indiecart shop today, 24th of April 2014 at 3 pm

Update on Marilou and Mabel

I have decided to offer Marilou and Mabel comment style here on my blog. They will each be 350 CHF plus 40 CHF shipping. I am hoping to have them ready on Wednesday, comments will be up for 12 hours, I will announce on my fb page.

The first three people commenting will get 3 entries for the doll, enlarging their chances for the doll. If you'd like a good chance at that, you can be added to my mailing list for my blog that will inform you of the new blog/comment style listing before I announce it on my facebook page. If you'd like that, please pm me your e-mail address that you check regularly and you will get an e-mail whenever I publish a new blog post ;)

I have decided to go with my blog because I suppose I'm curious by nature and on Indiecart I never know who actually got the doll because of all the aliases and I really would like to know where the dolls I spend so much time creating are travelling to.
That said I WILL allow angels.

Thankfulness

Jane's auction has left me speechless and thankful for many reasons.
First of course as it shows a deep love for the little ones I create with my hands, love creating. It shows a love for handmade, one of a kind, imperfections, warmth, tradition and natural materials.
I have gotten so many messages of people who are happy for me and with me. People who have watched the auction because they care for me as a maker, others who care for my creations.
I am humbled and a little bit self conscious because I'm not sure my dolls are "good enough". To me of course they are, but as always, there are imperfections that to me give them more personality, make them more special in my eyes, but I know we live in a world that doesn't always allow room for imperfection, who makes us try to hide them. I know many of the people who love my dolls agree with my view of imperfections breathing life into the little ones. And I find this incredibly touching and soothing.
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!! <3

And of course Jane is very excited to travel to her new home and meet all her new friends I already showed her on my computer screen!
